City-sponsored workshop will help with home-buying process

If you want to buy a home but don't know where to start, a good starting point would be Saturday's free educational workshop set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Pope Center on Lexington Avenue.

The City of Washington is sponsoring the program to help take the confusion and uncertainty out of the home-buying process and provide a step-by-step guide to home ownership.

Saturday's program is designed to help people understand the process involved in becoming homeowners. Topics will include cleaning up credit, learning about money management, setting financial goals, avoiding consumer scams, understanding the mortgage loan process, and learning how to qualify for down-payment assistance.

The program to educate residents on the path to homeownership is part of the Southwest Washington Redevelopment Plan, which has as one of its aims to increase the ownership of private homes in the Whitehall area.

Refreshments will be served, and there will be free give-aways.

For more information, call Kim Evans at 706-678-3277 or Barbara Bacon at 706-552-3278.
