Waters to be inducted into N. Augusta Hall of Fame
Charlie Waters, a former Dallas Cowboys strong safety (1970-1982), three-time Pro Bowl player, veteran of two Super Bowl championships, and a former standout at Clemson University, will be inducted as part of the 2008 class to the North Augusta Sports Hall of Fame this Saturday, January 26. Other inductees receiving honors on Saturday will be pro football player Craig Baynham; former Furman University athletic director and N.C. State football coach Dick Sheridan; retired North Augusta High School principal and threesport coach Ed Stillwell; and city councilwoman and longtime city recreation department volunteer coach Pat Carpenter.
The sports commission will hold the banquet and induction ceremony at Grace United Methodist Church beginning with dinner at 6 p.m. with the ceremony following at 7:15 p.m.
Sports Commission chairman John Felak said the board was "thrilled" by its third class of inductees.
"Collectively, these inductees continue our tradition of honoring successful people who call North Augusta home," Felak said. "They continue to inspire our community, and we are anxious to thank them for their efforts."
Waters is the brother of Dr. Marshall P. Waters III of Washington.
