Marketplace growing, needs volunteers
David Toburen, director of God's Marketplace, Inc. was the guest speaker for the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, February 12. Toburen gave members an update of activates of the food pantry and thrift store operations on East Robert Toombs Avenue. He said that the food pantry initially fed about 6 people per week when it opened in June 2007 and now feeds about 30 per week. In addition, he indicated that donations now come in from Bi-Lo, Pizza Hut, and elsewhere, and he thanked the community for it's continued support. Toburen said that the Thrift Store sales are almost $700 per week, and that $500 of these monies support and stock the food pantry operation. He told members that donations are taken on Monday 9-12, and that the thrift store is open on Friday and Saturday 9-12 - with volunteers needed.
