Wrestlers headed for Area tourney this weekend
W-W vs. Towns County and Westside The Tigers defeated Towns County 41-36. Towns was missing several wrestlers due to the fluand there were a number of forfeited matches. Winners for the Tigers were Ryan Scarboro, Rob Lovvorn, John Lovvorn, Josh Cosby, Evan Harrison, Tyson Gilland, and Brandon Howard. In the second match, W-W defeated Westside 42-38. The match began at 130 lbs. with Josh Cosby winning a 15-2 major decision. After a loss at 135 lbs., Evan Harrison won by pin at 140, Tyson Gilland won by an 11-2 major decision at 145, and Josh McTier won by pin at 152. Westside ran off several wins in a row before consecutive pins by Brandon Howard at 285 lbs. and Ryan Scarboro at 103 lbs. John Lovvorn ended the match win a pin at 119. Senior Josh Cosby earned his 100th career win.
W-W participated in its final regular season tournament for 2008. Tyson Gilland took first place at 140 lbs. with pins over Robert Mc- Kay of Oglethorpe County, Derrick Burdette of Madison County and a 2-0 decision over Scott Buzzard of Blessed Trinity. In the 119 lb. class John Lovvorn finished in third place with a pin over Cole Braselton of Jackson County, a loss by decision to Derrick Small of Clarke Central, a 15-0 technical fall of Trey Gilmer of Buford and a 1-0 decision over Ben Grisel of Athens Christian. Josh Cosby also finished third at 130 lbs. Cosby won a 5-2 decision over Kyle Bates of Madison County, lost by decision to Chad Grenda of Blessed Trinity, then defeated Jamel Davis of Clarke Central by pin and Cameron Hutchins of Buford by 2-0 decision. Ryen Scarboro, Rob Lovvorn, and Evan Harrison all advanced to the consolation semi-finals before bowing out.
This weekend W-W travels to Toombs County High School for the Area 2AA individual tournament. The top four placers in each weight class will advance to the State Tournament.
