Tignall water rates cheapest among comparable towns

The regular meeting of the Tignall City Council was held at 7 p.m. on February 13. Those present were Mayor Richard Gammon; Council Members Nobie Keener, Leon Aycock, Albert Huyck, Chief Mike Arrington, City Clerk Elaine Jackson, Water Superintendent Clyde Davis, City Attorney Michael Horgan, and a visitor, Walter Parker.

A resolution for a franchise fee for cable or video providers was presented and approved. It will now be filed with the Secretary of State. It was decided to do a follow-up on the debris that has still not been removed.

Chris Quigley presented a graph of how the water rates in surrounding towns compare with Tignall. Tignall was on the bottom with the cheapest rates. He explained that the first two steps of the project have been done. A public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on March 13, to inform the public of the need for improvements to the town's water system and for their input.

The town has reached a seven percent reduction level in the water. The restrictions are still in place with a goal of 10 percent.
