We had good services at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church Sunday. The Gideon speaker was Larry Ford of Hartwell. He gave an interesting talk on the work of the Gideons. He told several testimonies and how the scriptures they give out have helped so many people make a profession of faith and changed their lives. . The Wilkes-Lincoln Camp of Gideons Pastors' Appreciation Banquet was held at the First Baptist Church in Washington Friday night. It was well-attended and enjoyed by everyone. A wonderful testimony was given by Carrie Christie of the Atlanta area. She was raised in a family of atheists and had never heard of Jesus or seen a Bible, but on a trip with her mother when she was a young teenager she saw a Bible in a hotel room. She "stole" it and read it but kept it hidden from her mother and family for years. She became a Christian while attending college and through the years all her family became Christians. It was an amazing story and I think it touched every heart in that place. The guest speaker at the banquet was John Cass, the president of the Madison County Camp. The meal was catered by Cornelia Davis and it was very delicious. Those who attended the banquet from our church were Rev. and Mrs. O'Neil Martin and James and I. We really enjoyed it. Willard Lance, who is a Gideon, also attended. .Mrs. Virginia Witcraft of Raytown visited Sue Davis Saturday afternoon. .Visiting Mrs. Iris Dyson Friday were Megan Turner and Harrison of Elberton, and Lindsey Scott and baby Emily of Augusta. .Samille and James Sherrer visited friends in Madison County Saturday afternoon. We saw Mrs. Sue McCarty at Danielsville. She will celebrate her 96th birthday this week. She is a sweet lady and loves everybody. James grew up with her brothers and one of them was killed in World War II. We visited Sidney Ann Stoyle in the nursing home in Comer. She and James were classmates in high school. We visited Mr. and Mrs. Bud Spinks in Carlton. We also visited Mrs. Louise Berryman in Magnolia Estates in Elberton. .Charlie Branham spent Sunday night with Benjamin Hodges near Tignall.
