North Alexander School group sets annual meeting next Thurs.

The North Alexander School Association (NASA) will hold a reception and its annual meeting next Thursday, February 28, at 5:30 p.m. at The Fitzpatrick Hotel.

The wine and cheese reception is open to all who wish to learn more about NASA's purpose and its accomplishments in 2007, chairman Bill Bennett said in a letter of invitation. In addition, the association will welcome old and new members, and prospective members may pay their dues at the meeting.

Bennett urged anyone with old photographs of the building, class members or groups to bring them to the reception. "Although the building ceased to function as a classroom facility in the 1970s, there are many residents of our county that still retain fond memories of school days here. As is often the case, with the passage of time those memories become fonder and fonder."

The business portion of the meeting will include a financial report, including fund-raising efforts and restoration expenditures, Bennett said. Also scheduled are an update on current plans for this year's renovations and the results of a community survey on future uses for the facility, and questions and suggestions are encouraged.

The meeting will conclude with the election of 2008 officersand directors.

Bennett said that volunteers and new members are welcome. "The board will gratefully welcome any volunteers interested in assisting with parts of the work ahead of us," he said, "from fund-raising to supervision of renovations to ideas for appropriate uses for the facility. Your input and support are vital if we are to accomplish anything of lasting value in the future."
