Gerald Mitchell Thaxton Funeral services for Gerald Mitchell Thaxton, 63, of Union Point were held Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at McCommons Funeral Home Chapel, Greensboro, with Rev. Leonard Ezell officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Union Point. He died Sunday, February 17, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Augusta. Mr. Thaxton was a native of Wilkes County and was the son of Mary Callaway Thaxton Pittman of Union Point, and the late Bennie Lee Thaxton. He graduated from Union Point High School and then entered the United States Air Force, serving in Japan during the Vietnam era. He was employed by Kirby in Mobile, Ala., for 30 years. He attended Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Fla., when he lived there. He later returned to Union Point to be closer to his family. Survivors in addition to his mother, include a stepdaughter, Heather Tittle of Tennessee; a stepson, Clint Tittle of Tennessee; a sister, Janice Thaxton Pitts of Conyers; a brother, Douglas Thaxton of Woodville; and two step-grandchildren, Cody and Casey.
Pallbearers included Gene Lindsey, Ricky Newsom, Keith Branyan, Richard Dingler, Paul Jackson, Melvin Johnson, James Callaway, and Ricky Callaway.
