First Amendment right
Years ago, out of respect folks didn't swear and curse in public nor in mixed company. Now, they curse in the preacher's face and don't care who is listening. Years ago, folks would call your hand if you cursed around their wife. Now, we don't say anything for fear that we will get shot or get beat up or be put in jail for trying to take away their rights or whatever. Years ago, if you cursed in school you got your mouth washed out with soap and it never killed anyone. Now, back when they would ask you if you wanted smoking or non-smoking in the restaurants, I would quickly say, "I want no cursing and swearing too!" I was more offended by their nasty, filthy mouth than I was by the smoking. I used to go in barber shops back in the good old days and they would have a sign up, "No profanity!" In other words, "No cussing!" Amen! One fellow, under what he said was his right, mocked and made fun of the Crucifixionof Christ on the cross, and mind you, he did this at a so-called Christian college. Years ago, first amendment right or no rights he would have been run out of town on a rail. And yet this basic right is being denied to those who believe in public recognition of God. Now, our forefathers expected this right and all constitutional rights to be guided by basic social principles and common sense that are not written down in a law book, but rather in the Good Book. Those principles are respect and common courtesy. Of course, common courtesy got thrown out with common sense. Amen!
And the most important thing that freedom of speech gives us is the right to speak out against abuse of this basic right like I am doing right now. Can you say amen?
