Three will compete for W-W at state

Ryen Scarboro, Tyson Gilland, and John Lovvorn qualified for the state wrestling tournament last weekend.
Still undefeated, Tyson Gilland got a first place finish at the Area 2AA Individual Wrestling Tournament last weekend at Toombs County. John Lovvorn and Ryen Scarboro both finished third in their respective weight classes. All three now advance to the state tournament to be held this weekend at the Gwinnett Civic Center.

The individual tournament, held February 15-16, was a 16-man bracket with the top four advancing to the state tournament.

Gilland took first place at 140 lbs. defeating Zach Newham of Jeff Davis and Hunter Davis of Dublin by fall. In the semi-finals he won an 11-2 major decision over Terrell Roberts of Screven County, then defeated Case Schofill of Toombs County 8-0 to win the area championship.

In the 119-lb. class, Lovvorn advanced to the state tournament with a third place finish. Lovvorn pinned Jason Kelley of Pierce County before falling to Omer Lariscy of Screven County 4-3. He then won an 18-3 technical fall over Dalton Parker of Toombs and a 3-0 decision over Kelby Nail of Appling County to finish third.

Ryen Scarboro finished third in the 103-lb. class to advance to state. Scarboro pinned Trey Scott of Brantley County, lost to Tyler Hadden of Toombs County 13-11 in OT, then pinned Ridge Lovett of Appling County and Hussain Frazier of Screven County to take third.

The three Tigers will compete in the state tournament Friday and Saturday, February 22-23, at the Gwinnett Civic Center.
