Our local merchants support us, so we should all support them TO THE EDITOR: Something happened recently that reminds me to shop locally as much as possible. On Sunday, February 24, we had a reception at the First Baptist Church to honor our youth in making a commitment to True Love Waits, an abstinence-based lifestyle. When the lady in charge of the reception visited a local store, she asked for any leftover Valentine decorations for the reception. When the store owner found out it was for our youth, she proceeded to load us up with decorations and items off the shelves to give as door prizes, without being asked. This store owner is a regular supporter of the youth of our community, but she went above and beyond belief at this time. I am holding the name of the store to myself, so that she is not inundated with unreasonable requests.
The purpose of this letter is to remind us that it is our local merchants that support our community and our youth. It is not Wal-Mart, Kmart, Macy's, etc. that do this, but our own neighbors who have chosen to set up shop in our wonderful city. While some come through and judge a book by its cover, it is the residents that know the hearts of each other, and we should support them when ever possible.
