Congratulations and best wishes to Susie Sherrer Power of Lincolnton who turned 90 years old Saturday, February 23. Susie grew up in the Courtground community, daughter of the late Glover and Daisy Toole Sherrer. Her husband, the late Carl Power, grew up at Phillips Mill Baptist Church, son of the late Luther and Julia Swann Power. Carl and Susie were blessed with two nice children, Jerry of Anderson, S.C.; and Sandra, who is married to Billy Goldman of Lincolnton. Sunday, the children and grandchildren honored her with a birthday party where many friends and relatives took part. Among relatives attending were her sister, Maggie Buff, and her children, Ann and Warren Newsome. Susie is blessed with pretty good health and able to stay at home next door to Sandra and Billy, and Jerry visits often. .I guess the skiing fever has been in the air as I have heard of many taking advantage of the Presidents Day and school holiday. Our daughter, Mary Jane Scarborough, and her son Tyler had the pleasure of joining Bes Moore for an overnight ski trip to Maggie Valley. Tyler was so excited sharing their "mini vacation." .Saturday, Henrietta Lunceford had a nice visit with her sister, Martha Beth Flanigan, in Lincolnton, and on to Thomson to visit with their mother, Mabel Workman, at Thomson Manor. .Among visitors of Dan and Mildred McAvoy and Jerry McAvoy during the week and weekend were Claudia McAvoy, Curtis and Linda McAvoy and their two grandchildren, and Mary Hawes. .Mrs. Tommy Thaxton and Mrs. Jonnie Walker visited the Durham family Tuesday of last week. .Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Elizabeth Dillard Crow of Decatur who passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 6. Many in our area have fond memories of her and her husband, Reid Crow, and all the Dillard family. She was a daughter of the late Roy and Ida Cosby Dillard who are buried at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. Her sister Reba (Mrs. T.C.) Harrington of Crawfordville is the only one of the children left. Reba and T.C. feel so blessed to have each other. When I was a little girl the car door was open and I had my hand in the crack of the door. The door went to close and Reid Crow was nearby and helped save my hand. I have never forgotten his name. . Funeral services for Dr. Paul Emmitt Davis, 83, of McDonough, who died Tuesday, February 5, at his home, were held Friday, February 8, at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough. Burial was in Lake Cemetery in Metter. Dr. Davis was principal of Alexander Stephens Institute in Crawfordville in the early 1950s when I (Priscilla Johnson then) graduated from high school in 1953 and wrote the Lyneville news for The Advocate Democrat. He was vice-president of Brewton-Parker College for 12 years and served as principal of other Georgia high schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation radioman and gunner and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He received B.S., Masters, and Doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Martha Bland Davis of McDonough; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Ronnie Stephens of Buford, and Debra and Danny Brown of McDonough; three grandchildren; and four sisters. Sincere sympathy is extended his family with fond memories. .Lee Maxwell of Atlanta visited his parents, Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell, Saturday. Our daughter, Mary Jane Scarborough, and Tyler joined us for lunch. It's always nice to have the family all together. .Smile, God loves you.
