Ian, Genevieve Coe to perform at Augusta State string jamboree Ian and Genevieve Coe of Washington-Wilkes will be performing as part of the Augusta State University Honors String Jamboree to be held Saturday, March 8, 7 p.m., in the Maxwell Theater of the university. Ian and Genevieve were among 66 out of hundreds of applicants who were nominated to this all star orchestra. Obtaining a seat in the orchestra is an acknowledgement of years of hard work, dedication and accomplishment The orchestra will rehearse several complex pieces of music Friday afternoon, March 7, and all day Saturday. They will perform in concert that evening. The selected pieces are all 20th century compositions, adding fresh and exciting flavor to the evening's performance. Composers represented will be Prokofieff,Stravinsky, Bartok, and Debussy, four of the most significant composers of all time. Ian and Genevieve are students of Gwen Elsey, Suzuki Strings of Augusta (SSA), teacher, and Lois Akins, SSA Director. They have also been longtime piano students of Ruth Harris, and Ian is a voice student of Patricia Burton of Washington. Their parents are Drs. Stan and Elizabeth Coe. Dr. J. Quentin Kuyper is the director of the Conservatory and Coordinator of the ASU Honors String Jamboree. Honors String Orchestra members have been invited to attend the Friday evening performance of the world class Kremlin Chamber Orchestra held in the Maxwell Theater.
The Honors String Jamboree is sponsored by the Augusta State University Conservatory and Music Department, the Greater Augusta Youth Orchestra, the Richmond County String Orchestra, the Aiken Youth Orchestra of the Aiken Center for the Arts, Suzuki Strings of Augusta, and many private string teachers in the area.
