Wilkes Idol' contest to hold auditions Mar. 8 at W-WCHS Organizers have set auditions for "Wilkes Idol" in hopes of attracting talent from Wilkes and surrounding counties to compete for their new contest planned for April. Auditions will be held Saturday, March 8, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School auditorium, organizer Sheila Hill said. "If you think you got a voice to win, come on through." The auditions are open to those 16 years old and over, she said, and competitors may sing anything, but the music must be clean. There is no cost to audition. The turnout for the auditions will determine the next step, she said. If enough contestants pass the auditions, the contest will be set for April. "But first we have to get enough people trying out." The grand prize will be a 2005 automobile, with $1,000 for second prize and $500 for third. Hill said that the contest was advertised in Wilkes and surrounding counties, and that everyone is welcome to audition. "We've put flyers out in Elberton, Thomson, Greensboro, all over."
The Wilkes Idol contest is not associated with the popular television show "American Idol."
