Mary Ann Garrard honored at 70th birthday party Mary Ann Garrard was honored on her 70th birthday at a surprise celebration Saturday, February 16, given by Ann Eubank and Teresa Plummer of Nashville, Tenn., and David and Debra Eubank of North Kingstown, R. I.; also, her brothers, sisters and their spouses, Randolph and Shirley Garrard of Brooks, Laura Sue Miller of Lattimore, N.C., David and Beth Garrard of Washington, and Martha Jo and Mark Collins of Watkinsville. The celebration was held at the Washington Woman's Club which was festively decorated for the party. Each mantel featured two hurricane glasses encircled with deep purple tulips and various chrysanthemums and lilies of complementary colors and greenery. The buffet held a large urn of matching flowers. These arrangements were designed and created by the guest of honor's nephew, Robert Garrard of Birmingham, Ala. The food table held an array of party foods including family traditions of butterfingerswhich Mary Ann Garrard began making when she was 12 years old and peanut cookies which her mother began making 70 years ago. The birthday cake was a threetiered white confection accented with fresh flowers. The table on which it was placed featured a papier mache cruise ship with caricatures of Miss Garrard and several members of her family. Guests were treated to a slide show of a few pictures chronicling Miss Garrard's life. At the end of the slides, the picture of the whale included in the slides and the papier mache boat were explained as she was presented her gift of a cruise from Vancouver, B.C., up the coast of Alaska.

C.; Carol Free of Barnwell, S.C.; Lillian Sherman of Augusta; Ruth, John and Jessie Collins of Watkinsville; Laura Jean Stewart of Union Point; Libby Chapman of Greensboro; Carolyn and Henry Garrard of Athens; and Sylvia Hutchinson of Athens.
