Amanda Reneé McAvoy, Christopher Paul Sanders exchange wedding vows on Saturday, February 2

Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Paul Sanders
Amanda Reneé McAvoy of Washington and Christopher Paul Sanders of Lincolnton were married in an impressive double-ring ceremony Saturday, February 2, at four o'clock in the afternoon at Phillips Mill Baptist Church in Washington. Brother Robert Rayner of Lincolnton officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Benji and Sherri McAvoy of Washington.

The bridegroom is the son of Darryl and Luann Sanders of Thomson.

Andie Bridges of Washington tended the register on the church porch.

The altar held two brass spiral candelabra. Ivy graced the front altar ledges and continued by the piano and organ lofts. The unity candle to the left side repeated the invitation wording, "Today I will marry my best friend". Ivory bows marked pews.

Candles were lighted by Brad Whitacre of Akron, Ohio, and Matthew Goldman of Boiling Springs, S.C., cousin of the bridegroom.

The bridegroom served two tours in Iraq. The candle on the organ burned in loving memory of his buddies who were killed in action in Iraq, PFC Irving Medina, PV2 Louis Moreno, Capt. Robert Schull, SPC Brian Mosky and SPC Jason Farnan, in addition to Tom and Louise Cartledge and Manson T. Sanders, grandparents of the bridegroom; the bride's grandfather, Rex Casper, and uncle, Don Saggus.

A program of music was presented by Bes Moore of Washington. Vocal selections by Alyssa Stewart of Rayle were "I Will Be Here" and "You Raise Me Up."

Mr. Sanders was his son's best man. Groomsmen were Pat Sanders of Thomson, brother of the bridegroom; Stewart Thomas of Eatonton and Jason McAvoy of Grovetown, brother-in-laws of the bridegroom, Matthew Goldman and Brad Whitacre.

Each groomsman wore a black tuxedo with a matching blue vest and tie. The bridegroom and bride's father wore black tuxedoes with ivory vests and ties.Each wore a single miniature ivory calla lily boutonniere.

Amy Thomas of Eatonton was her sister's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Stacey Miller and Melissa Burgess of Lincolnton, Hannah Wright of Rayle, Jodi Thigpen and Donna Savage of Grovetown. Their flowing A-line cobalt blue dresses featured fitted spaghetti-strap bodices. Each front had crystal and sequin designs and swept toward the left to the waistline. They wore matching necklaces and earrings with teardrop sapphires offset by diamonds, gifts from the bride. Each carried three ivory calla lilies wrapped in ivory ribbon and finished with an ivory bow.

Baynham Phail of Appling, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer. His tuxedo and boutonniere matched the bridegroom's.

Flower girl, Autumn Phail of Appling, cousin of the bride, wore an empire waist mid-calf white dress with a cobalt blue sash and carried a satin basket with opalescent ivory petals. A crystal tiara completed her attire.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was radiant in her ivory satin gown fashioned with a fitted bodice and princess skirt. Light reflected from the satin as it did from the Swarovski crystals, pearls and sequins that adorned the scalloped sweetheart neckline with sheer offthe shoulder sleeves.

Her tiara and ivory veil featured matching crystals and pearls.

Her bouquet of 12 ivory calla lilies was accented with blue stephanotis.

Completing her attire were her pearl necklace and earrings from her bridegroom, and a pearl and diamond bracelet from her sister, Amy Thomas.

For her daughter's wedding Mrs. McAvoy wore a spaghetti strap hunter green satin ankle-length Aline dress with a bodice of gathered chiffon which draped down the back. Her cream shawl featured a hunter green floral design. Gold and green beaded necklace and matching drop earrings completed her ensemble.

Mrs. Sanders, the bridegroom's mother, chose an eggplant pantsuit topped with a flowing jacket with sheer sleeves. Her jewelry was a double strand of pearls and matching earrings.

Both wore wrist corsages of seven cream-colored miniature roses.

Seated in places of honor were the bridegroom's grandmother, Betty Sanders of Thomson; the bride's grandparents, Thomas and Mary Jane McAvoy of Washington and Marilyn Cragin of Riverside, Calif., and her great-grandmother, Gussie McAvoy of Washington. The ladies had corsages of orchids while Mr. McAvoy had a boutonniere of miniature calla lilies.

The couple left the church amid a shower of birdseeds and bubbles and boarded the back of a firetruck that drove off with lights, sirens and horns blaring.

Charlotte Waller of Washington directed the wedding.

Reception

The bride's parents hosted a reception at the VFW in Washington following the ceremony.

The area featured an icicle snowflake theme with added cobalt blue ribbons for accent. The bridegroom's medals he received in Iraq were displayed at the entrance table along with the portrait of the bride made on the back of a firetruck.

The wedding cake, made by her mother, was topped with a firefighterand bride and was served by Leslie Hagen of Austin, Tex. The attendants pulled charms from the cake as a part of wedding tradition.

The bridegroom's cheesecake, served by Stephanie Goldman of Boiling Springs, S.C., was surrounded with firefighter theme decorations.

Punch was served by Andie Bridges and Corryn McCrae of Louisville, Ky., also assisted at the reception.

After spending their wedding night at Southern Elegance in Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Sanders honeymooned in Charleston, S.C.

They are residing in Lincolnton.

The wedding and reception festivities were photographed by Tanya Smith and videoed by Bob Simmons, both of Washington.

Rehearsal Dinner

The bridegroom's parents entertained at a rehearsal dinner on Friday evening in the Phillips Mill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

An informal evening was enjoyed as guests celebrated at the Varsitycatered event complete with all the Varsity fare and Varsity hats.

Gifts were presented by the prospective bridegroom.

Wedding party, family and friends attended.

Bridesmaids Luncheon

Amanda McAvoy was honored at the bridesmaids luncheon given by her aunt, Dawn Moore, at her home on Tignall Road. Co-hostesses were the bride-elect's aunt, Mary Donna Hall of Athens, and grandmother, Mary Jane McAvoy.

Spring flowers were used in decorating.

The bride-elect presented gifts to her wedding party.

Guests included the wedding party and mothers of the prospective couple.
