New W-W website to debut Friday

News- The city's officialweb site, the top marketing tool to draw business and visitors to Washington-Wilkes, will be replaced Friday with an allnew site said to be functional yet elegant.

"This is not just another rebuild of the old city website," said Tourism Director Ashley Barnett. "This is a totally new website that, as of Friday, will replace the exiting www. WashingtonWilkes.org. The domain News- name will not change, so all those existing links from other web sites will bring them straight to the new site."

Best of all, Barnett said, the web design is a product of home-grown design professionals. "The new web site is a labor of love by Catherine and Brian Blount with 'think nine designs,'" she said. "Catherine is the daughter of Joey and Polly Fievet, and Catherine, Brian and Anne did this out of their love for Washington and for the community. I could not be more thankful to them for giving us this opportunity."

The site manages to join functional menus for visitors to access information with an elegant design that reflectsWashington-Wilkes, Barnett said. "This website is absolutely gorgeous and I am thrilled for it to be up this Friday for the world to see."

From a home page that scrolls beautiful photos of Washington, visitors to the new site are able to access pages for tourism, a calendar of events, government, history, quality of life, Chamber of Commerce, and more. From the tourism page, for instance, visitors can pull down lists of events, attractions, restaurants, lodging, shopping, the arts, and maps.

The entire website has not been completely finished, Barnett said. "We got up the most important hightraffic pages up first and wanted to do so immediately because we'll have very high traffic on our website soon, with Channel 6 News coming to do Your Hometown, plus thousands coming for the Tour de Georgia, and folks coming for the Spring Tour of Homes, the Masters, and the Spring Music Festival."

Think nine designs will continue to work on the website until it's completed, she said. "As they complete each page they will upload it immediately."

The new web site has one new benefit: Barnett can make changes herself, quickly, in response to changing needs, new events, or new information. "Finally, I'll have all access, as will designated Chamber directors, to be able to make changes any time, any day to the general content. We haven't had that capability before, so it is great that I can update it whenever I receive the newest information."

With the internet now the preferred method of finding information for most of the world, this new face is vital to Washington-Wilkes, Barnett said. "For every company thinking about relocating here, every group looking for a convention site, every retiree looking for a new home, our website is our number one marketing tool. It's everybody's first impression of our community and we want to put our best foot forward."
