Martha Sheehan Drinkard

Funeral services for Martha Sheehan Drinkard, 88, of Wills Memorial Drive, Washington, were held Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the Raytown United Methodist Church with Rev. Ira McKeever officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died Thursday, March 6, in Wills Memorial Hospital. The eulogy was written by Mrs. Drinkard's daughter, Gloria Rhodes, and was eloquently delivered by Angie Strother, niece.

Mrs. Drinkard was a native of Taliaferro County and was the daughter of the late Michael Gideon Sheehan and the late Aura Mae Gunn Sheehan. She was the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Michael Joseph Sheehan of Ireland, and was the widow of William Albert Drinkard of Wilkes County. She was a devoted member of the Raytown United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the United Methodist Women. She was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress and textile worker. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, and gardening.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda D. and David Lindsey and Gloria D. Rhodes, both of Washington, and Frances D. and Dennis Hopkins of Acworth; a sister, Catherine Fitzgerald, St. Simons Island; fivegrandchildren, Dave Lindsey, Jennifer Doan, Elisha Delaney, Emily Hopkins, and Lindsey Hopkins; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany Wales, Christopher Michael, Ashley Michael, and Thomas, Benjamin, Katherine Rose, and Rachel Doan.

Pallbearers included John Harvey Edwards, Joey Fievet, Henry Harris Jr., Thomas Macfie,Buzzy Randall, and Dr. Les Sales.

Memorials may be made to the Raytown United Methodist Church and/or to the cemetery fund, c/o Jackie Partridge, 6534 Lower Mill Rd., Crawfordville, GA 30631.

Hopkins Funereal Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
