Washington Lions Club to resume Broom Sale for Blind' next week After an interruption spanning several years, the Washington Lions Club will resume its popular houseto house "Broom Sale for the Blind" project next week. "Lions members and volunteer helpers will focus sales in various residential areas of Washington from time to time as manpower will allow," explained Lion President Mary Hubbard in announcing the sale. "Nezt Monday evening, March 24, 2008, we will call on residents in Jackson Heights and adjacent areas beginning at the West By-Pass intersection. We have received a new shipment of all the familiar broom sale items and we will offer them from door-to-door beginning around 5:30 p.m. Monday. Please welcome the Lions Club representatives when they stop at your house." Besides the usual household brooms and string mops, the Lions' sale will include heavy-duty warehouse brooms, whisk brooms, and toy brooms and mops. The items have previously been sold at special occasions on The Square and from a permanent display at Wilkes Eye Center. The ongoing sales are managed by Lion Buzzy Randall, project chairman. "We appreciate the loyal support of all our broom sale customers," Randall said. "Proceeds from the sales are used primarily for eye examinations and to purchase glasses for needy persons in Wilkes County."
The Washington Lions Club helps support the Georgia Lions Lighthouse and Lions International efforts, as well as various Washington Wilkes community projects.
