Qualifying set at Supervisor of Elections officefor July primary and November general election

The qualifying period for the General Primary election in July has been set for the last week of April.

Supervisor of Elections Judge Jim Burton said that the qualifying period will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, April 28, and close at noon on Friday, May 2. "The following officeswill be on the ballot in the July 15 General Primary and will qualify locally," Burton said, "Sheriff, Clerk of Superior Court, Tax Commissioner, Coroner, Surveyor, Board of Commissioners District 1 and 2."

All qualifying will be done in the officeof the Supervisor of Elections in the Wilkes County Courthouse.

Nonpartisan candidates for the offices of Probate Judge, Chief Magistrate, and Board of Education Chairman and Districts 3 and 4 board members will qualify June 23 through June 27 and will appear on the ballot for the General Election in November.

In January, the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners approved qualifying fees for each officeat 3 percent of the respective salaries. Those fees are as follows: for Wilkes County Sheriff, $1407.54; for Wilkes County Tax Commissioner, Clerk of Court, Probate Judge, and Magistrate Judge, $1,229.03; for Coroner, $108.00; for Surveyor, $10.00; and for two seats on the Board of Commissioners (Districts 1 and 2), two seats on the Board of Education (Districts 3 and 4); and chairman of the Board of Education, $72.00.
