North Wilkes fireclaims home

Ernest Clark (at left) looks on at his nearly destroyed home Monday morning on the Elberton Highway north of Tignall. Clark said he and his wife escaped unharmed after a firestarted in a clothes dryer vent at the rear of the double-wide manufactured home.Fire Chief Alan Poss said that the lack of volunteer firefighters in the area during the day was a problem, but firefighters were able to save part of the home that housed family photo albums and heirloom firearms.
