Tigers still ahead in region play at 3-1, facing Patriots for the first time today
A leadoff double followed by a homer and then another run scored by N. Oconee got the game off to an unbalanced start for the Tigers. Another homer in the second extended the lead but W-W battled back and made it 3-2 before starting pitcher Drew Wilson gave way to reliever D.J. Barnett in the third. The Titans never looked back and Wilson had to take the loss in his first start of the 2008 season. N. Oconee continued to pad its lead and three homers in the top of the seventh sealed it at 11-2. Former Tiger coach Dwayne Sapp was at the helm for N. Oconee. In other games the Tigers beat Morgan County 12-8 on Wednesday, March 12, for their second win in region 8AA. Caleb Saggus (2-1) pitched fiveinnings for the win and D.J. Barnett pitched two innings to record his second save of the season. The Tigers got off to a rough start in the first inning when a pair of infielderrors resulted in two Bulldog runs. The Tigers rebounded as lead-off hitter Saggus smacked his first homerun of the season.
The Tigers added two insurance runs in the sixth when Saggus and Lee Thomson scored on a single from Drew Wilson and a fielder's choice by Ty McGill. Leading hitters for the Tigers were Caleb Saggus 3-4 hr, 3rbi, 3sb; Drew Wilson 2-4; Zach Murray 1-3; Whit Chafin 2-4; and Ty McGill 1-4, 3rbi. On Friday, March 14, the Tigers beat Greene County 12-0 in a 5-inning mercy-rule-shortened game.
The next day, the Tigers traveled to Thomson but only got in three innings when severe weather caused the game to be cancelled. Today W-W is at Oglethorpe County for another region game beginning at 5 p.m. Next week it's Putnam at home on Monday and Morgan away on Wednesday.
The Tigers are now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in Region 8AA.
