Jackson Armour finishes season with some impressive showings

Jackson Armour is shown in the show ring with his champion heifer.
Jackson Armour won first place with his commercial heifer and received Champion Commercial Heifer overall at the Wilkes County Junior Steer and Heifer Show earlier this month. He also participated in the Junior National 4-H and FFA Livestock Show in Perry where placed second with his Limousin steer and ninth with his heifer.

In the local show, Jackson placed third in grades 5-7 showmanship and also second with his medium weight steer.

"Jackson worked very hard with his animals throughout the year to prepare for these events," said County Extension Agent Audra Chapman. Preparation includes daily care and feeding and participating in other local shows, she explained.

"This is a project where the entire family gets involved. As a result of his participation, Jackson gained character traits including responsibility, caring and fairness. In addition, Jackson practiced numerous life skills including teamwork, self motivation, self esteem, critical thinking, decision making, goal setting, cooperation and communication in and out of the show ring.

"This is a great project for 4-H'ers to get involved with the community and learn many traits to build their character," she said.
