Revolutionary soldier to be honored here in April 12 ceremony

The Marquis de Lafayette Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), will host a ceremony honoring the grave of Revolutionary War Veteran Purnal Truitt on Saturday, April 12, 11 a.m.

The ceremony will be held at the Brown-Hardin cemetery located at 3346 Scull Shoals Road, Washington. The SAR will be joined by the Daughters and Children of the American Revolution and includes the Kettle Creek Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) of Washington.

The ceremony will feature a presentation of colors by the SAR State Color Guard, and a musket volley by the Elijah Clark Militia, all dressed in Revolutionary War period uniforms.

A family descendant, SAR member J. Michael Tomme, will present the biography of his ancestor. The public is invited to see this colorful and dignified tribute to one of American's first veterans.

The Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Children of the American Revolution are national patriotic, historical, and educational societies whose members are direct descendants of the patriots who earned our independence.
