Margareat Stoddard Bowdoin A memorial service for Margareat Stoddard Bowdoin, 89, of Atlanta was held Monday, March 31, 2008, at The Cathedral of St. Philip in the Mikell Chapel in Atlanta. She died Thursday, March 27, at Lenbrook in Atlanta. Mrs. Bowdoin was a native of Elbert County and was the daughter of the late George Mattox and Louise Brown of Elberton and the late Colonel John E. Stoddard of Washington. She was the widow of William R. Bowdoin, her husband of 54 years. She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mallory Judson Brown of Elberton, and the late Dr. and Mrs. W.C. Mattox, Elberton. She was a graduate of Washington High School and received her A.B. in Journalism from the University of Georgia. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority and the Theta Sigma Chi national journalism sorority. As a long time resident of Atlanta, Mrs. Bowdoin was an active volunteer at The Cathedral of St. Philip and was instrumental in the growth and development of The Thrift House. Survivors include two sons and their wives, William R. Bowdoin Jr. and Donna Bowdoin of Athens, and Jack C. and Debi Bowdoin of Griffin; fivegrandchildren, Jennifer M. Stevens of Athens, William R. Bowdoin III, Athens, M. Farrell Bowdoin of Athens, Brittany B. Damberg of Spearfish, SD, and J. McCay Bowdoin, Newnan; and fivegreat-grandchildren.
