Tiger strongman Dan Wylie still unbeaten in drive for shot put, discus state titles Dan Wylie continues to defend his double state crown in track and field as he remains undefeated in the shot put and discus throw with just a few meets to go before region and state track competition. Head track coach Brian Usry reports that the Washington-Wilkes track program is growing and improving each year. There are 27 members of the boys team and 18 members of the girls team and Usry is confidentof his teams' future. "We have 13 freshman boys on the team this year who are learning a great deal," he said, "and they will be very good in the future." Usry also reported that the teams finished third at Greenbrier, second at Oglethorpe and second at Madison County earlier this year. "All of our athletes are working hard to get ready for the region and state meets. Dan Wylie will contend for a second state championship in both shot and discus," he added. Today, April 3, and again on April 15 the teams will be competing in Thomson. The girls region meet will be held at Jackson County on April 18 and the boys region meet will be on April 25 at the same location. In a meet with Oglethorpe and Morgan on March 27, results were as follows: Discus: Randy Thomas, first, 133'11"; Ricardo Davis, second, 126'9". Long Jump: Desmond Jackson, first, 18'11"; Lavorius Jones, second, 18'5". Triple Jump: Desmond Jackson, first, 37'6". 4x100 Relay: Darrien Gladmon- Teverrius Jones-Desmond Jackson- Deon Jackson, second, 45.11. 4400 Relay: Dexter Norman-Deon Jackson-Teverrius Jones-Justin Guin, second, 3:52.69. 100 meters: Deon Jackson, first, 10.75. 200 meters: Deon Jackson, first, 22.18; Teverrius Jones, second, 23.21. 300-meter hurdles: Chris Kemp, first. 800 meters: Justin Guin, second, 2:19.88.
