Hudson hosts hearing helper
Colin T. Riordan, Hearing Care Practitioner for Beltone in Augusta (right), was the guest speaker for the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, April 8. In his program, "New Technology for Hearing Impaired," Riordan explained the anatomy of the ear as well as the symptoms, causes, and methods of treatment for hearing loss - indicating that about 30 million Americans are hearing impaired. He said that 95 percent of these can be helped but that only about 15 percent actually seek help. Riordan also told members that one out of four Americans over the age of 65 have a hearing disorder. He showed members different hearing aids from the 1970s to the new, very small, digital, automatic-volume-control devices of today. Sherry Hudson was the program host for the day.
