• Celeste Adams is in Ranger babysitting the animals that belong to her daughter and her family, Kimberly and Joe Coots and sons, while they are vacationing for spring break. • Sara Frances Henderson spent Thursday night with her daughter and her husband, Frances and Chris Johnson in North Augusta, S.C. She spent Friday through Sunday with her son and his wife, Creight and Cheryl Henderson of Beech Island, S.C. She went to Matlock Baptist Church in Jackson, S.C., Sunday morning to hear her grandson, Brian Henderson, preach. • Alex and Kay Tyler met Greg and Gina Tyler, Jordan, Caleb and Sydney of Hoschton in Athens for dinner Friday night to celebrate Alex Tyler's birthday. I think he's 39 (a little bit older than Kay.) • Spending from Friday through Sunday with William Rhodes were Randy and Karen Rhodes, Christopher and Taylor of Danielsville. Joining them were Karen's daughter Mary and her son Dalton of Florida. • Mrs. Leon Nix of Clarkesville and Sara Grimes of Elberton spent the weekend with Mary Ann Williams. • Myrline Thornton spent a week with her daughter, Mary Jacobs, and her husband Rudy in Monticello. While there they went to the new mall in Macon. You know how Myrline loves to shop! Alicia Thornton of Athens is staying a few days with Myrline this week. • Scott and Kathy Ware and Stacey attended a birthday party for Jeremy Howell at Ryan's Steak House in Anderson, S.C., Saturday. Jeremy is Jamie Howell's son and Jamie is Scott's brother. • Visiting with David and Nancy Hilley Wednesday, April 2, was their grandson Owen, son of Stacey and Amanda Hilley who live in Commerce. I asked Nancy how Owen got to their house on that Wednesday and did he drive himself. She laughed and said that he has a little red Mustang that his Michigan grandparents gave him and David said yes, Owen was going to be crawling with his pacifier in his mouth to go crank his Mustang. Anyway, Owen's mom, Amanda, brought him to spend the day with his grandparents, the Hilleys. • Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keener spent Sunday through Thursday of last week in Melbourne, Florida, visiting with Mr. and Mrs. George Thomas. They especially enjoyed the warmer weather there. • Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Bobo attended the Georgia Cattlemen's Convention in Perry over the weekend. • Layton and Gloria Harris met friends, Shirley and Bob Garrett, in Thomson for supper Saturday night. The Garretts are from Lancaster, S.C., and were coming here for the Masters. Also joining them for supper were Curtis and Robbie Tanner and Margaret Connor. • It is the time of the year for fishermen and gardeners to get excited with their hobbies. Mary Webster caught a 10 lb., 15 oz., striper at Bobby Brown Park last week. She was so excited. Mary, you should have gotten a picture of that one! My little granddaughter, Kaci, says she doesn't like real fish, she just likes the homemade kind that daddy cooks. • We are sorry to hear that Nita Riley has been a patient at Wills Memorial Hospital last week. She is home now and hopefully doing better. • Linda Aycock attended the funeral at Danburg Baptist Church of Miss Helen Moss who was her first grade teacher at the elementary school in Tignall. Miss Helen had lived in North Augusta prior to her death. • Linda and Leon Aycock have been back and forth from the University Hospital in Augusta last week. Leon's mother, Grace Aycock of Lincolnton, has been there in intensive care. She has been removed from intensive care now and has improved. • I talked to Dr. Sophia Bamford's daughter, Sara Pelot of Washington, D.C. She gave me a report on Dr. Bamford. We are glad to know that Dr. Bamford has been home for a couple of weeks and is able to get up and walk around some. She has improved considerably. • We extend sympathy to the family of Troy Brown and his brother, Foy Brown. Betty Brown, wife of Foy Brown of California, passed away last week. Some of you may remember her daughter, Susan Blakey, who lived in Washington for several years.
• We have finally got the correct place of the billboard with Gracen Ware and Kristen Lukich in their antebellum finery. It has been seen and reported to be at exit 148, the Crawfordville exit. • Beulah Baptist Church will be having a fishfry on Saturday night, May 3, in the fellowship hall of the church. • Members of Tignall Baptist Church are so proud of the new look in the sanctuary. They have a new baptistry, new carpet, and some other renovations. The new Burgundy carpet was installed last week. • Don't forget to be getting your things together for the communitywide yard sale on Saturday, April 26, at the old school grounds. Anyone in the community who would like to donate baked goods for the North Wilkes Steering Committee bake sale on that day will really be appreciated. By baked goods we mean cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, or homemade bread.
