Tyrone News There were several beautiful flower arrangements Sunday at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. The one at the altar was placed by James and Sara Long in memory of Sara's twin sister and Sara's birthday. There was one in the vestibule in honor of Mrs. Rachel Callaway Johnson's 90th birthday by her family. • Speaking of birthdays, Mrs. Rachel Callaway Johnson's family honored her with a really nice surprise birthday party Saturday afternoon in the fellowship hall of Phillips Mill Baptist Church. It was like a nice family reunion that included friends. It started off a rainy day but the Lord saw fitto hold back the rain for the event. A lot of love was shown with sparkling eyes and big smiles. You can be on the lookout for a much more detailed write-up elsewhere. If it had been a really pretty day, no telling how many would have shown up. Most all of Rachel's Sunday School Class, her teacher, Danny Thornton, and his sweet wife Alice were present and Pastor Robert Rayner. A really nice event. • Mr. Paul Davisson of Phillips Mill celebrated his 99th birthday Saturday, April 5. Belated happy birthday wishes to him. His wife Norma will have a birthday on Memorial Day. • On Easter Sunday the home of Nell Dunn Shedd came alive as all three of her daughters and most of their families got together to enjoy the day and some of "Mama's" cooking. Most of them got to stay all day beginning with lunch and enjoying the evening meal. Some were there for only a part of the day. Those attending included Barbara and Amber Davis, Nina Davis Posey and sons, Jacob and Alex; Laura and Hope West, Valerie's husband, D.J. Wheeler, and son Mason, Tracy Moore and one of his friends; Karen and T.J. Bowen, Ray, Trey, and Sara. They were happy to have Hope's father, Tracy West, and cousins, Henry and Faye McAvoy, to join them for lunch. Plates were sent to those unable to attend and several shut-ins which was greatly appreciated. Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are a family tradition for them to try to be together. • Henrietta Lunceford visited her sister-in-law, Betty Lunceford, at Greene-Point Nursing Home in Union Point after church Sunday. She got to see longtime friends, Rev. Lawrence Griffith, and his sweet wife Alice of Athens, who were visiting his mother, Mrs. Maude Griffith. They all got to hear Rev. Griffith preach and good singing during the afternoon. • Sunday afternoon, Dan, Mildred and Jerry McAvoy were glad to have the following to visit them: Mary Hawes, Dorothy Ann and Jimmy Saxon, their daughter, Donna Hudson, Donnie and Claudia McAvoy, their daughter Mandy and her husband, Tom Werth, and infant son Zachery who was visiting them from Columbus. • Virginia Hunter always enjoys having her children visit. Sunday afternoon, daughter Marcia Kirkland of Lincolnton and son John Hunter of Madison visited at the same time. Marcia was excited over having a chance to help out at the big annual Masters Golf games in Augusta. • Tyler Maxwell Scarborough, going on 11, and spends a lot of time with his grandparents, Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell, prepared a surprise candlelight supper Friday night for them. He decorated the table with lighted candles, china, silverware, napkins, etc. He had a special printed menu to choose from. After the meal, he removed the dishes and had both of them to make a paper craft that would spin and had us to recall happy events and jokes. There was soft music playing all the time. An adult wouldn't have done any better and surely wouldn't have had the fun. Those who really know Morrison and Priscilla came to enjoy filling in the time with laughter. Tyler was so excited and sweet spoken. • Remember. God loves you.
