News-Reporter subscription rates to rise for first time in four years

For the first time in over four years, there will be an increase in subscription rates for the print edition of The News-Reporter.

The increase will take effect on June 1, 2008, but the newspaper is inviting its readers to extend or purchase new subscriptions at the old rates until that time.

"It is with regret that we have been forced to raise our rates," publisher Sparky Newsome said, "but increases in the cost of postage, gasoline, and newsprint leave us with no choice."

The new rates for a one-year subscription to The News-Reporter are $26 "in county" and $33 "out of county." Customers may renew their subscriptions or purchase new subscriptions for up to two years at the current rates through the end of May.

In addition, the online edition of the newspaper will begin a subscription program at the same time. While story intros and all advertising will still be free, readers will be required to subscribe and log in to read entire stories and see all accompanying photographs in the current issue and in the immediate past issue. After two weeks, the entire content will be available free.

Again, The News-Reporter regrets the inevitable rate hike but pledges to try and keep the new rates as low as possible for as long as possible.

"We would like to thank everyone who reads and advertises in The News-Reporter for their continued support," Newsome said. "We will continue to work hard to put out the best newspaper we can."
