After splitting a pair of games during the past week, the Washington Wilkes Tigers are still in second place in the region, but not so solidly. A loss to the Patriots of Oglethorpe County made the two teams even in Region 8AA South at 7-4. Unbeated N. Oconee still sits on top.

The Oglethorpe loss came on Friday, April 4, when the Tigers travelled to Lexington and fell short 2-8. D.J. Barnett got the loss for W-W as the Patriots had a big inning in the fifth scoring all eight of their runs on seven hits, a homer, and two Tiger errors.

Offensively, leading hitters for the Tigers were Caleb Saggus 2-4, 2sb; D.J. Barnett 1-2, 2b; Jerrick Darracott 1-3, 2b; Ty McGill 1-3; and Lee Thompson 1-3.

After the weekend, W-W returned home to host Putnam County and cruised to an easy 9-1 win. Drew Wilson pitched fivesolid innings allowing the only run and Barnett closed out the game with two scoreless innings.

Leading hitters for the Tigers were Caleb Saggus 2-3, 3 runs, 2sb; Zach Murray 3-4, 2rbi; Jerrick Darracott 1-3, 2b; Ty McGill 1-3, 2b, 3rbi; and Lee Thompson 1-3, sb.
