Street dance Tuesday night with Playback expected to fillThe Square and honor deShazo
A free street dance Tuesday night will kick off the Tour de Georgia stage start activities, and will honor the memory of a local arts patron.

In celebration of the Tour de Georgia bicycle race coming to Washington, and in memory of arts patron Steve DeShazo, the Washington Wilkes Arts Foundation is sponsoring a street dance featuring the Augusta favorite "Playback Band featuring TuTu Devine."

"Playback will be performing on The Square Tuesday night April 22 beginning at 8 o'clock. The street dance is free and open to the public in honor of Washington's participation in the Tour de Georgia," the Foundation's Debbie Wells said. "Playback was voted best R&B band in Augusta by readers of Augusta Magazine for 2007, so we're expecting a wonderful musical event."

The Washington-Wilkes Arts Foundation is celebrating the whole month of April as their spring Festival of Music this year and dedicating the Month of Music to the memory of local arts patron Steve deShazo.

Prior to the dance, the Foundation will hold its Patrons of the Arts Cocktail Party from 6-8 p.m. at Talk of the Town2. "Both the art foundation's dance and the Month of Music are dedicated to the memory of Steve deShazo," Wells said, "and Debbie McLeod is going to sing a tribute to him at the Arts Patron's pre-concert party Tuesday night."

"Playback the Band featuring TuTu Devine" will bring their popular Augusta R&B sound to Washington for a street dance Tuesday.
The Month of Music will be capped off Sunday, April 27, with the visit by the Friendship Community Choir, a 35-member chorus from Athens. The group will perform in the Washington First Baptist Church sanctuary at 3 p.m. The chorus is visiting Washington just prior to starting on a European tour.
