Becky Hooton decribes recent mission trip to Thessalonica

Becky Hooton was guest speaker at the meeting of the Mary C. Reid Women on Mission of First Baptist Church Tuesday, April 1, in the church conference room.

Mrs. Hooton, introduced by Norma Hopkins, facilitator, showed a video and described her recent two-week mission trip to Thessalonica, Greece. Mrs. Hooton was accompanied by Janice McAvoy and son, Dean, who were part of the mission team of five.

In Greece, Mrs. Hooton led a ladies retreat at Glad Tidings International Fellowship, the only Englishspeaking evangelical church in this city of 2 ½ million people. Foreigners from many nations attend this church where English is a common language. Because Greek Orthodox is the dominant religion, there are few Christian books available in English. Mrs. Hooton received some books from the group which will be sent to the church. Also while in Greece, Mrs. Hooton's team had the opportunity to be a part of the church ministry to gypsies and to Muslims in a refugee camp. She also related to the mission group her plans to go to Haiti in May to lead a retreat for pastors' wives.

Mrs. Hopkins presided and following the program and business meeting, offered a prayer for those with special needs.

Ruth Holes gave the prayer calendar and closed the meeting with prayer.

Members and guests present were Mary Ann Bentley, Evelyn Cofer, Dot Harris, Ruth Holes, Norma Hopkins, Mabel Johnson, Joanne Pollock, Betty Reese, Belle Story, Janice McAvoy and Dean.
