W-W Middle School, High School set open house Monday, April 28, to meet with parents, students

A joint Open House for Washington Wilkes Comprehensive High School and Washington-Wilkes Middle School will be held on Monday, April 28, for the parents and students of each school. Between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., parents may pick up their child's latest progress report for this semester and meet with teachers. This will be the last Open House of the 2007-08 school year.

It is the desire of both W-WCHS and W-WMS to enhance communication between the schools and parents, according to Steve Echols, high school principal. "We are committed to monitoring student progress and providing opportunities for parents to be informed and address concerns they may have," he said. "Through preventive measures and parent/school collaboration, the students of W-WCHS and W-WMS can experience greater success. So, please come out and support this event, meet the educators involved in your child's life, and learn about wonderful things happening at the schools."

In addition, W-WCHS will conduct a meeting with parents and current eighth grade students (next year's ninth graders) in the cafeteria at 6 p.m. on the same day to talk about and inform parents of the new graduation requirements that will take effect with the 2008-09 ninth grade students.

These will be W-WCHS students in the class of 2012. The new graduation requirements were set forth by the Georgia Dept. of Education.

W-WCHS would also like to talk to parents and students about any other programs offered at WWCHS aimed at enhancing the educational experience and getting students prepared for post-secondary education opportunities.
