Tatum participates in Duke Univ. TIP, receives medallion

TIARE TATUM

Tiare Tatum, a seventh grade student at Washington-Wilkes Middle School, participated in the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP), took the SAT, and scored high enough on the critical reading section of the test to participate in the state recognition ceremony to be held in Atlanta. She will receive a medallion embossed with the Duke TIP logo.

The Duke TIP was founded in 1980 and is dedicated to the cultivation and education of talented youth. The seventh grade talent search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school.

These candidates are invited to complete either the SAT reasoning test or the ACT assessment college entrance examination. Duke TIP then provides the participants with comparative information concerning their academic abilities and resources for unique educational opportunities. The goal is to assist young people with excellent mathematical or verbal aptitude.

"We are extremely proud of Tiare and her successful participation in this program," said her teacher, Debbie McLeod. "This is quite an achievement!"
