The Philomath Church Preservation Association will have a chicken and pork barbecue on Saturday, May 3, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Buckman barn in Philomath. Tickets are available by contacting Johnny and Sue Ellen Buckman at 706-274-3228 or Sonny and Linda Bryan at 706-274-3582, or Lawrence Nash at 706-274-3745. Tickets are $7 each. Walk-ins are welcomed. Proceeds will go towards fixing the inside of the Presbyterian Church building in Philomath. ƒSardis Baptist Church will have a special homecoming service on May 4. The guest speaker will be Dr. Bryan Edwards, a former pastor of Sardis. Tom Wells will be leading the singing. This will be followed by a great meal in the fellowship hall. The New Apostles from Crawfordville will be singing in the sanctuary after the meal. Everyone is invited to come. We are looking forward to seeing all our friends and former members. ƒSardis Baptist Church enjoyed a good service Sunday morning with George Pate bringing the message. The congregational singing was led by Pam Hall with Rebekah Echols as pianist. The children were also given an inspirational message at the altar by Joyce Fry. Afterwards they went to children's church downstairs in the annex with Tina Boatwright and Cody Boatwright. Sunday School was at 10 a.m. at the church and also at the Echols Home with Nina Boatwright as teacher. The church prayer meeting was Wednesday night at 6:30 at the Echols Home. ƒBonnie Boatwright visited Lamar and Kay Berry, Trey, and Kaitlyn and Bryson Sunday after church. Bonnie made herself at home and enjoyed the good meal Lamar had cooked. ƒRuth Flynt has a fractured vertebrae and is waiting for the word from the doctor as to the treatment. Her daughter, Jane Bailey, has been with her for the last week. Visitors have been Melvin Bailey, Gloria Hardy, Peggy Echols, Gary Roth, Taylor Roth, and Bonnie Boatwright. She has had many phone calls. ƒBecky Williams of Homer came down Wednesday to visit Peggy Echols and they attended the funeral of Suzie Ivey at New Hope Baptist Church in Lincolnton. ƒWilda Boatwright and Sudie Kennedy went to Union Point to visit Frances Nash and Joann Lewis. ƒBoyce and Pam Hall and Avery, and Martha Hall went to Milledgeville where they watched a co-ed softball game at the athletic complex. ƒJohnny and Kathryn Shedd had all their children and grandchildren with them Sunday to spend the day and have dinner honoring Johnny for his birthday. Lyn Shedd, Ricky Shedd, Chance Shedd, Tim and Gail Stewart, Alyssa Stewart, Paul and Hannah Wright and Ava, Darrell and Laura Shedd, Rodney and Betsy Shedd, Mil, Matt and Morgan, Angie Paul, Chad Williams, Cody Paul and Ashtyn, and Garrett Paul came to share in the celebration. ƒBuck and Linda Echols' company Sunday were Greg and Angela Armour, Cody and Hunter, Will and Samantha Callaway, Scott and Sissy Smith and J.T., Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank. ƒ Joan Perez, Frances Fendley, and Ishiima Glenn went to Athens Saturday and while there had lunch at Ryan's. ƒRuby Arnold has been a bit under the weather. Dorothy Callaway had a procedure to remove kidney stones Monday in Athens. Sallie Mae Arnold is still not well. ƒGeorge and Mozelle Casey, Frances Fendley and Myrtice Seymore went to Wrens Monday to pick strawberries. ƒ Joyce Bowen is at home after weeks of therapy at Wills Memorial Hospital. ƒNeil and Kim Frankel, Zachery, Kyle, and Bryce, had Sunday dinner with Clyde and Sandy Whittington. ƒClyde and Sandy Whittington and Avery Hall went to Crawford to watch Zachery Frankel play Tee Ball Saturday. ƒLarry Fleming, Billy Amason and Monica Gunter went to a Vacation Bible School Clinic at the Georgia Baptist Association Mission Center in Washington Saturday. ƒHappy birthday to Haley Hill Chafin who was 16 Monday, April 21. Troy and Shirley gave her a birthday dinner Sunday evening with family and friends. She had a birthday cake with "Sweet Sixteen" on it. Monday night, Troy and Shirley treated her out to the La Cabana Mexican restaurant in Washington. ƒBarry and Dana Echols of Ball Ground spent the weekend in Wilkes County attending a wedding and doing some work around the homeplace. ƒBonnie Boatwright joined James and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman of Lexington and Fran Thaxton Tuesday afternoon to go to Elberton to play bingo at Wendy's. ƒGeorge and Ann Wideman were honored with a cookout Sunday by James, Mathew, and David Wideman at David's house in Washington. Leeman Stewart came over for a visit. Gene Winfrey also visited George and Ann Saturday. Ann visited Gene and Betty Winfrey one day and also Emilie Rorie at the Echols Home. ƒJ.W. and Bonnie Boatwright attended the supper meeting of the Soil and Water Conservation Association Tuesday evening at the Oglethorpe County Ag Center in Lexington. ƒBonnie Boatwright enjoyed the gospel singing at Pentecost Chapel Saturday evening. Glenn Henley and the Eberhart sisters from Jones Chapel in Lincolnton sang old time songs like "Whispering Hope," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "Unclouded Day," "When They Ring Those Golden Bells," "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," and others. Several different musical instruments along with the piano were used by the Eberhart sisters. Singing also were Wallace Woods and Pierce and Sue Ashmore. The house about came down when Oscar Taylor stood up and asked Wallace Woods and Wayne Norman to join him in singing "Heaven's Jubilee." Mr. Oscar is 88 years old and can do well and also fills in at Pentecost to preach sometimes. He lived on the Callaway Road in the Rayle community for 25 years and worked for the Callaways. It was good to see him and all the others at Pentecost and hear some good old time singing.
