Cancer survivors invited to dinner Thursday, May 1

Some 125 cancer survivors have been extended invitations to attend the Fifth Annual Cancer Survivors Dinner scheduled at the Third Shiloh Center on Thursday, May 1, at 6 p.m., the night before the Relay for Life event.

Each survivor is asked to invite one special caregiver to accompany them.

"Award-winning chef Joe Barnett is sponsoring the dinner for the second year to honor our Wilkes County cancer survivors," organizer Cathy Lannae said. "Joe and his staff will be preparing and serving his delicious Low Country Boil. A variety of scrumptious desserts have been donated for the occasion."

"Kicking Cancer with Comedy" is the Relay's theme this year and in keeping with that theme some entertaining surprises have been scheduled during the dinner. There will also be an opportunity for survivors and their caregivers to add their hands to the Survivors "hands banner."

Cancer survivors needing additional information can contact Tena Blakey at 706-678-6321 or e-mail her at tenablakey@ yahoo.com.
