Harry Joseph Reynolds

Funeral services for Harry Joseph Reynolds, 87, of Crawfordville were held Monday, April 14, 2008, at the Crawfordville Baptist Church with Rev. John Autry officiating. Interment with military honors was in the church cemetery. He died April 9.

Mr. Reynolds was a native of Scranton, Penn. He served with honor during World War II as a mortar man with the 8th Infantry Division, Company L, and landed at Utah Beach on D-Day. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Infantryman Combat Medal, the European Theatre of Operations Medal, and a presidential citation. While stationed at Ft. Gordon, Ga., he met his future wife, Eva Mae Evans of Crawfordville. They were married when he returned from the service and lived in several Mid-Atlantic state locations, moving as needed by his management position with the F.W. Woolworth Co. He later worked for several other retail chains in the greater Philadelphia area. He was a former mayor of Crawfordville, and was a deacon of the Crawfordville Baptist Church where he was a member of the Brotherhood. He was an avid baseball fan and loved to birdwatch. Mrs. Reynolds died in 2007.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Reynolds Smith and her husband Bob of Beech Creek, Penn., and Karen A. Reynolds of New York City; a granddaughter, Lisa N. Rhinehart, and her husband Rob, of Walton, N.Y., and their four children; and a sister, Elizabeth Schabacker of Amherst, MA.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Crawfordville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 142 Memorial Drive, Crawfordville, GA 30631.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
