Whitney Lorraine James, Jacob Kenneth Richards exchange marriage vows on Saturday, March 29
The bride is the daughter of Addison and Patti James of Washington. The bridegroom is the son of Mike and Donna Richards of Lincolnton. Greenery adorned the outside railings. Inside the sanctuary, the altar held two candelabra interspersed with large ferns on pedestals. To one side of the center altar was a vase of fiveivory roses placed in memory of the couple's deceased grandparents, Clarence E. James, Peggy L. James, George Melvin Paschall, James K. Richards and Willie L. White. Pews were adorned with ivory bows. Meghan Arnold of Washington tended the guest register in the vestibule and gave programs to guests. Instrumental music was used in the ceremony. The grandparents and mothers were seated to "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" by Bach after which the bride's sister, Hailey James of Washington, sang "The Rose" by McBroom. The wedding party processed to "Psalm XIX" by Marcello and the bride entered to Pachelbel's "Canon in D." "The Wedding March" by Mendelssohn was the recessional. Mr. Richards was his son's best man. Usher-groomsmen were Travis Ivey of Lincolnton, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, Daniel Miller and Josh Miller of Washington. They and the bridegroom wore black tuxedos with boutonnieres of calla lilies. Hailey James served her sister as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jordan Ivey of Lincolnton, niece of the bridegroom, Karla Dawson and Amanda Wolfe of Washington. All were gowned in kiwi floor-length dresses with thin ivory ribbon accenting each waist and ivory covered button back closures. They carried bouquets of large ivory hydrangeas and hypericum berries. Hailey Ivey and Courtney Morgan of Lincolnton, nieces of the bridegroom, and Sydney Murphy of Augusta, cousin of the bride, were the flower girls. They wore ivory dresses and carried beaded handled satin baskets filled with ivory rose petals. Sydney also wore a halo of ivory beads and flowers with trailing ribbon. Jack Friedman of Jefferson served as ring bearer and also wore a black tuxedo with a miniature calla lily. Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride was radiant in her ivory A-line gown overlaid in lace and embellished in ivory and champagne beading. An interwoven champagne sash completed the design. Her waterfall veil with champagne ribbon edging fell from a headband adorned with champagne and ivory beading. Her bouquet of long-stemmed calla lilies was tied with ivory lace ribbon. Ivory pearl and crystal earrings and necklace complemented her attire. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. James chose a beige floor-length dress with beading and crystal chandelier earrings. Mrs. Richards, the bridegroom's mother, chose a coral dress with lavender accents. Their corsages were ivory roses. Seated in places of honor were the couple's grandparents, Addison and Nell Lansdell and May B. White of Hephzibah; Denis and Charlotte Schulte, Yancey M. Paschall and Mary Richards of Augusta; and Velva D. James of Jesup. Following the ceremony, guests waited in the front of the church to shower the couple with heart-shaped puffed rice as they ran to the waiting 1960 Rolls Royce chauffeured by Guilliame Slama of Washington. Tara Townsend of Washington was the wedding director. Reception Addison and Patti James entertained at a reception at the Washington Wilkes Country Club immediately following the ceremony. A table on the front porch held the guest book tended by Meghan Arnold. The clubhouse was festively decorated for the occasion. Round tables were covered in ivory cloths and centered with glass cylinders filled ivory hydrangeas and green hypericum berries. At one end of the dining room the buffet, also overlaid in ivory, was centered with a tall silver trumpet vase filled with an all-ivory arrangement of hydrangeas, tulips, lisianthus, snapdragons, and Alstroemeria lilies with green hypericum berries. Guests enjoyed a buffet of chicken satay, pork tenderloin, warm crab dip, spinach dip, assorted crackers, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and assorted cheeses. Margarita punch, tea, wine and beer were also served. The bride and bridegroom's cakes shared a long table, also covered in ivory. The bride's four-tiered vanilla confection had raspberry créme filling. Ivory icing was accented with kiwi-colored stars scattered about each tier. The bridegroom's rectangle German chocolate cake featured a raised Fox racing logo outlined in dark fudge. Hydrangeas accented the table in addition to small tea lights. The cakes were wedding gifts of Rich and Misty Friedman of Jefferson and were served by Mrs. Friedman. Mike Fortson of Washington was DJ for the evening. The couple's first dance was to "The Way You Look Tonight" by Michael Buble'. The bride and her father danced to "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle. The couple left in their wedding attire. Following a wedding trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., they are making their home in Washington. Rehearsal Dinner Mike and Donna Richards were hosts at a rehearsal dinner at the Fitzpatrick Hotel Ballroom on Friday evening, March 28, honoring Whitney James and Jacob Richards. The bride-elect chose a tea-length chocolate brown dress with turquoise polka dots and a turquoise sweater. Completing her attire were turquoise beaded sandals. Guests enjoyed a delicious buffet with chocolate cake and cheesecake for dessert. The couple presented gifts to their wedding party.
