Thanks for 'Month of Music' help TO THE EDITOR: The Washington-Wilkes Arts Foundation ventured away from its usual format of a weekend music festival. Our purpose was twofold this year, to celebrate the Tour de Georgia cycling event coming to Washington with a community street dance on The Square, and to honor the memory of arts patron Steve deShazo, who did so much to contribute to the founding of the Washington-Wilkes Arts Foundation. Many many people worked very hard and I would like to publicly recognize the individuals who made extraordinary contributions toward the success of this "month of music." Deanne and Tim Crook of Griggs Ficklen Insurance and Dr. Doug Giles of Southern Chiropractic for hosting an absolutely beautiful kickoff party for members of the Arts Foundation. A big thank you to Robert and Ed of "Talk of the Town" for the elaborate food, décor, and ambiance. Debbie McLeod, your singing in Steve's memory was great. Thank you so much, Ronnie Huffman, for allowing us to use your tent and also donating your time and effort toward making the street dance successful. Thank you to a great city crew who so willingly helped wherever we needed them. Tom Wells, who attended to many details of coordinating the concert performed by The Friendship Community Choir last Sunday afternoon at the Baptist Church. Thank you, Bolton Lunceford Theater Board, for allowing us the wonderful venue for the concert by Eidolon that began our "month of music." Of course nothing is successful without the coverage by our local paper, thank you Sparky Newsome and staff! What a fabulous asset (understatement!) Ashley Barnett is to Washington, thank you Ashley for everything you do for all of us, but especially thank you for helping us promote our "month of music." An enormous thank you to Lou and Barbara Ricciuti, Susan and Ed (EIII) Pope, Polly and Joey Fievet, Carol Cartledge, Laura and Dave Toburen, Bobbie Griffin and Carolyn Reynolds for the hours of work and planning that went toward the W-WAF's goal of bringing art and music to our community. I am blessed to live and work here among so many wonderful people!
