W-W FCCLA members attend leadership meeting in Athens

Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School FCCLA members, Jasmine Cleveland, Shanaye Blackmon, Victoria McClendon, Mariah Crew, and their adviser, Sheila Callaway, attended the Georgia FCCLA State Leadership Meeting in Athens at the Classic Center April 17-19.

The opening session on Thursday introduced the theme for the meeting, "Leadership: An Enchanting Experience." Members were introduced to candidates for state officesand then enjoyed listening to the guest speaker, Joel Caldwell, of "Power Team."

Caldwell crushed concrete blocks with his head, bent steel, blew up hot water bottles and conducted many other extreme challenges. He spoke to FCCLA members about obstacles they may face in life and how to overcome them.

Later Thursday evening, members attended a regional meeting where they listened to a presentation from National First President Jarrod Salaiz, enjoyed a pizza social, and danced the night away with a dancea Thon.

On Friday morning, W-W FCCLA Chapter Vice President Jasmine Cleveland participated in state officercandidate interviews and national officercandidate interviews. Jasmine learned about many aspects of FCCLA and the responsibilities and opportunities of being a state or national Officer.On Friday evening, members attended a recognition session, the Enchanting Gala reception, and Enchanting Gala. Members enjoyed the opportunity to meet members from other chapters and learning about leadership through FCCLA.
