Concerned Citizens of Wilkes Co. elect new officersat April meeting

With Sara Willis acting as chairman, the Concerned Citizens of Wilkes County (CCOWC) officially elected officersat their April meeting held at the Mary Willis Library.

Officerselected to serve one-year terms were Mary McPherson, president; Sara Willis, vice president; Evelyn Wright, secretary; Richard Phillips, treasurer; and Brenda Phillips, program chairman. The group also elected Benjamin Willis, Larry McPherson, and Mary Stewart as fund-raiser coordinators.

The main goals of the CCOWC are to assure the fair and equal distribution of property taxes for all Wilkes County citizens, and to address citizens' concerns with the Board of Commissioners.

Other items covered at the meeting included McPherson's report on the April BOA meeting, where the focus seem to be on a BOE mandate that all property in Wilkes County be reevaluated by September 2008. Willis reported to the group on the April Commissioners meeting at which the Commissioners heard a citizen's complaint concerning trailer compliance in the Holliday Park area, and "mud riding" on Shank Road.

The next CCOWC meeting will be held at the Mary Willis Library on May 13 at 7 p.m. The public is invited.
