Mark Twain program set May 8 at Friends of Mary Willis Library

Moeler and Luken
Lisa Luken will present an interesting and informative program on Mark Twain when the Friends of the Mary Willis Library meet in the meeting room of the library at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 8.

Luken's father, Bill Moeller, is a noted Mark Twain impersonator who for more than 30 years has presented programs at colleges, banquets, fairs, libraries, and correctional facilities. Part of the program program will feature a DVD of Moeller's last performance.

"I hope to tell a little about both men and show what happens when you put the two together," Luken said. "Hopefully, this will kindle an interest in Mark Twain and the works of this very versatile man."

Like her father, Luken is a native of Washington State. She and her husband Karl, a South Dakota native, moved from North Carolina to Wilkes County two years ago. They stay busy with their horses and cats and are involved in the community through the Washington Presbyterian Church, the Humane Shelter, the Iris Garden Club, and the Washington Kiwanis Club.

Also on the agenda will be a report on the Wilsbary's Book, Bake and Plant Sale, which will be held this Friday, May 2, on the lawn of the library, beginning at 10 a.m. This is the major fund-raiser of the Friends and helps to support the summer reading program and other library programs and purchases.

The public is invited to attend the program, and anyone who hasn't already joined Friends can do so at the meeting or any day at the library.
