I am amazed that the topic of conversation has changed. All my life the topic of conversation has been the weather and now has been replaced with the price of gas. I think we are getting a message here -- exercise, ride a bike or walk. Seeing all those cyclists come through last Wednesday with all their different colored outfitsreally made an impression on everyone. The last time I rode a bike I tied a pillow onto the seat to make it more comfortable and embarrassed my son. It made a much more comfortable ride though. ƒThe Keener porch is becoming a popular place. Nobie and Hugh Keener were sitting on their porch watching the cyclists last Wednesday when some of the media asked if they could take some pictures from their porch and their yard. Then Saturday night some of the prom couples had their pictures made from the Keener Porch. We may have to go back to the old porch sitting days with the price of gas being so high. ƒDorothy Jean (D.J.) Martin joined Tignall Baptist Church Sunday morning. D.J. is the daughter of the proud David and Joy Martin. D.J. was also congratulated on her winning for her grade level the 2008 Georgia Young Authors award. ƒFriday night supper guests of Scott and Kathy Ware were Paul and Gail Vandiver of Union Point and Jennifer Etheridge, Mike and Austin of Greensboro. ƒOn Saturday, Donald and Peggy Ware, Kathy Ware and Stacey, Jennifer Etheridge, Mike and Austin of Greensboro had fun at the Shriners Circus in Atlanta. ƒFaye Lamar traveled to San Antonio, Texas, Friday, April 18, with the Heritage group from Regions Bank. They returned on Thursday, April 24. ƒVisiting with J.C. and Vernilla Clark from Thursday through Sunday were J.C.'s sister and her husband, Betty and Donald Franklin of Apopka, Fla. ƒSpending the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Maney were their daughter, Debra Smith, and her sons, Morris and Jelani of Conyers. Morris drove the tractor for the first time and enjoyed it so much that he asked if they need him anytime he will be glad to come down to help out in driving the tractor. ƒOn Saturday afternoon Alex and Kay Tyler attended the track meet in Jefferson where their grandson, Caleb Tyler, participated. Alex and Kay and the Greg Tyler family all went out to supper and celebrated Caleb's ninth birthday. ƒSpending the weekend with Graydon and Pat Bobo were Mike and Miriam Bobo of McDonough. This weekend was a Bobo birthday celebration. Mike's birthday was the 28th; Miriam's was on the 13th; and Pat's was on the 22nd. They celebrated by going out for lunch together on Sunday. ƒGracen Ware wears many hats. She was at the kickoff for the Tour de Georgia on The Square in Washington where she met Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and State Senator Bill Jackson. She had her picture made with Lt. Gov. Cagle. Her picture is on the cycling web page as a daily distraction. On Tuesday afternoon she went to Marietta for a tennis match. This was the first time Amy Wheatley had a group to go to the state. Gracen and Courtney Gunter played doubles. Gracen's brother, Blake Ware, is lead singer of the group called "Soulhollow." This band played Tuesday night at the Farmers Market. I know Cristi and Dean Ware are very proud of their talented children. ƒThe Tignall community is saddened to hear of the death of Anna Brown. Our sincere sympathy is extended to her daughter, Marianna Brown. ƒWe also extend sympathy to Genna Grimaud whose uncle John Hamilton of Winder passed away and since then her grandmother, Mildred Hamilton, has had a stroke. Mildred Hamilton is Linda Albea's mother who is also of Winder. ƒDon't forget the fishfry at Beulah Baptist Church Saturday night, May 3, at 6 p.m. The proceeds go toward the building fund. ƒ I think everyone enjoyed the community yard sale Saturday and looking forward to another one next year. The North Wilkes Steering Committee appreciates all those who donated baked goods for the bake sale. ƒThe North Wilkes Library has two new books that were donated last week. One is "Where Are You Now?," the newest book by Mary Higgins Clark, and the other book is John Grisham's newest book, "The Appeal." The book being read to the children this Saturday at 2:30 will be "Ducks Don't Wear Socks" by John Nedwidek. There were very few children at the library for the table manners activity, so that activity will probably be repeated. It is needed! ƒPole Branch Missionary Baptist Church celebrated the anniversary of the Mother Board on Sunday, April 27. Rev. Larry Hawes of Tignall delivered an inspirational message entitled "Choose this day who you are going to serve." All members enjoyed this day. Rev. Joe E. Glaze of Elberton is pastor of the church.
