Sardis Baptist Church will have a special homecoming service on Sunday, May 4. The guest speaker will be Dr. Bryan Edwards, a former pastor of Sardis. Tom Wells will be leading the singing. There will be special music. Sunday School will begin at 10 a.m. with worship service at 11:00. This will be followed by a great meal in the annex of the church. "The New Apostles" from Crawfordville will be singing in the sanctuary after the meal. Everyone is invited and we are looking forward to seeing all our friends and former members. Rev. Jim Newsome is pastor of the church. ƒRev. Newsome brought the message, "When We Say Church," Sunday morning. The scripture was from I Corinthians with other scripture. Courtney Gunter played the piano with Pam Hall leading the congregational singing. The children gathered at the altar for their message and prayer by the pastor, then went downstairs with Joyce Fry for children's church. ƒEveryone was glad to have Karan Newsome back after a couple of weeks in Vero Beach, Florida, helping her sister. Pastor Newsome went down to Vero Beach for a visit and brought her home. He said she came home with a broken toe. ƒSardis Church prayer meeting is held at the Echols Home every Wednesday evening at 6:30. Everyone is welcome to come. ƒThe Philomath Church Preservation Association will have barbecued chicken and pork on Saturday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Buckman barn in Philomath. Tickets are available by calling Johnny or Sue Ellen Buckman at 706-274-3228, or other members of the association. Tickets are $7 each. Walk-ins are welcomed. Proceeds will go to fixing the inside of the Presbyterian Church building in Philomath. ƒ I am glad to report that Ruth Flynt's injury to her back was not as serious as first reported. She is recuperating nicely with some pain, but she has now been told that her back will heal on its own. Her daughter, Jane Bailey of Bogart, returned to her home Friday after spending a week and a half with Ruth. ƒPeggy Echols visited Ruth Flynt Wednesday. Bonnie Boatwright has visited her several times during the week. She has received many calls and well wishes. ƒDenise Armour says her father, Manuel Wheatley, is recuperating nicely at her home. They have had many visitors to come while he is with them. ƒBirthday wishes go out to Sudie Kennedy who will be 87 on Sunday, May 4. Sudie is thankful to be able to get out and visit people, shop, and go to ceramic painting in Thomson every week. ƒT.J. Bowen celebrated his birthday April 26 at his home with a dinner and party. Helping him celebrate were his wife Karen and children, Roy, Trey and Sara. ƒJ.W. and Bonnie Boatwright went to Athens Wednesday and Bonnie got a good report from her doctor. Afterwards Bonnie visited Katie Goolsby at Heritage Nursing Home on Hawthorne Avenue. Miss Katie looked good and is doing well except for being paralyzed from the waist down. She is able to be taken to the dining room for her meals. She was glad to see me and it was good to see her. She had another visitor while I was there. He was a neighbor of hers in Watkinsville and is a member of the same church. ƒAfterwards, J.W. and I went to Ryan's in Oconee County for lunch with Frankie Jones, Martha Jones, and James and Sharon Smith. ƒPeggy Echols and Margaret Connor took in the festivities in Washington Tuesday night and also enjoyed seeing the bikers Wednesday. ƒAvery Hall spent Friday night and Saturday with James and Joyce Bowen. ƒBill and Hope Remsen and Delaney of Evans spent Sunday with Peggy Echols and Johnny Adams. ƒMack Chafin and Ronnie Chafin went fishing and caught a bunch of fishso Sunday evening all the Chafin family gathered at the home of Troy and Shirley Chafin for a big fishfry with all the trimmings. Douglas Pollock of Washington enjoyed the fishfry as a guest of Mack. ƒGreg and Angela Armour, Cody and Hunter, Will and Samantha Callaway, Sissy Smith, Abby and J.T., and Richard and Lou Heard and Mattie and Hank were Sunday guests of Buck and Linda Echols. ƒBonnie Boatwright joined James and Kathleen Canup Tuesday in Lexington to go over to Elberton to play bingo at Wendy's. ƒDebra (Bobby) Armour went to Quiet Oaks in Crawford Tuesday to a meeting and Frances Fendley accompanied her to visit Melvie Esco who is a resident there. ƒWe deeply sympathize with the family of Anna Brown who passed away during the week. She was a sweet lady and will be greatly missed. ƒWe are glad Lee Parker wasn't hurt any worse last week when someone pulled out in front of him and caused him to wreck on his motorcycle. He has a broken arm, is skinned up real bad, has eight stitches in his mouth, and is very sore. ƒZachery and Kyle Frankel spent Thursday night with their grandparents, Clyde and Sandy Whittington. Kim Frankel, Zachery, Kyle and Bryce, spent Sunday with Clyde and Sandy while Neil was at work. ƒJoan Perez and Frances Fendley went to Athens Saturday and while there they stopped and ate at the Chinese restaurant. ƒRuby Arnold enjoyed attending church at Sardis Sunday morning. She has been busy seeing after two of her sisters, Dorothy Callaway and Sallie Mae Arnold, who are both ill. Dorothy had surgery in an Athens hospital last Tuesday and has had a rough week. ƒKenny and Vickie Mathews, Kelli and Katie of the Enterprise community of Oglethorpe County visited Johnny and Kathryn Shedd Saturday. Johnny's sister, Martha Davis of Washington, also visited. ƒBonnie Boatwright attended the Smith-Sellers family reunion Sunday at the Pentecost Chapel fellowship hall.
