Job fair for veterans, others to be held at Fort Gordon next Tuesday from 10-2

A job fair at Fort Gordon for employers, veterans, personnell recently separated from active duty, and other job seekers in the area is scheduled for next Tuesday and is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Labor's Augusta Career Center, the Association of United States Army (AUSA), the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

The 14th annual event will be held Tuesday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, which is Building No. 14401, located at 15th and Lane Ave. at Fort Gordon.

"This job fair is designed to bring employers and organizations in the Augusta area together with veterans and other job seekers who are looking for employment or career guidance," Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said. "Job seekers will receive cutting edge information on job search, career planning, and other valuable services."

The event will feature more than 40 employers who will be hiring to fillcurrent job openings. In addition, other employers will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with the job seekers, while other organizations will be provid- ing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to interview for available job openings.

Among the employers expected to participate in the event include: Atlanta Electrical Contractors, Century 21, City of Atlanta, Civilian Jobs, Clarke County Sheriff's Office,Cox Communications, General Dynamics, Helmets To Hard Hats, Lear Siegler, Lockheed Martin, Shaw Industries, Sizemore, Southern Company, T-Mobile, and Troops To Teachers.
