Fire damages Callaway Road home Saturday

Fire fighters from Rayle, Tignall, Jackson's Crossroads, and Washington responded to this Saturday fireon Callaway Road, largely extinguishing the firebefore it destroyed the home. The occupant, Lucy Hampton, was able to escape the fireand was taken to Wills Memorial Hospital for examination. The cause of the firewas unknown, Chief Alan Poss reported, but the fireoriginated in a rear bedroom and extended into the attic. Damage to the home is estimated at $30,000.
