James Harrison Wood

Graveside services for James "Jim" Harrison Wood, 66, of Washington, were held Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in the Crawfordville City Cemetery, Crawfordville, with Rev. Albert W. Huyck Jr. officiating. The body lay in state at the First Baptist Church, Washington, from 11:00 until 11:30 a.m. prior to the graveside service. He died Saturday, April 26, in the Georgia War Veterans Home in Augusta.

Mr. Wood was a native of Siloam and was the son of the late Will and Norma Patton Wood. He lived a life of public service, having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War then working for the Atlanta Fire Department for 23 years. Following that he worked for and retired from the City of Washington Police Department, then worked for a while with the City of Tignall Police Department His last officialposition was with Wesley Woods, working at Lanier Gardens Retirement Home until retiring because of ill health. He loved people and enjoyed life. He loved all music but his favorite was Southern Gospel. He loved his family and most of all he loved his Lord and wanted everyone to know and love Him too. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Washington. His first wife was Gail Ward Wood who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Callaway Wood, of Washington; a daughter, Joy Wood Roberson of Augusta; two step-sons, Ben Denson, Locust Grove, and Gene Denson; three grandsons, Devin Roberson, Daniel Roberson, and Micah Denson; nine sisters, Dot Cooler, Guyton, Margie Brown, Walterboro, S.C., Peggy Reville, Martinez, Billie Wood, Augusta, Jane Graham, Florida, Ann Oglesby, Savannah, Faye Mullins, Athens, Mary Lord, Watkinsville, and Joyce Maddox, Athens.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
