Sybil Wheeler Veazey guest of honor at 90th birthday drop-in

Sybil Wheeler Veazey
Sybil Wheeler Veazey of Crawfordville was honored on the occasion of her 90th birthday at a drop-in party Sunday afternoon, March 30, at the Taliaferro Senior Center in Crawfordville. Hostesses for the occasion were her daughters, Kathryn Hunter and Lynda Pollock of Washington and Jackie Butts of Crawfordville, and their families.

Mrs. Veazey, whose birthday was March 27, was lovely in a Royal blue dress complemented by a corsage of a Princess rose and gypsophila tied with delicate pink ribbon.

The center was beautifully decorated with masses of Boston ferns, potted deep hot pink geraniums and settings of white wicker. Of special interest to guests was a long table, overlaid in white Battenburg lace, that displayed pictures of Mrs. Veazey, her late husband, John Veazey, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As guests arrived, they were invited to register in the guest book placed on a table, covered in white and decorated to one side with a crystal vase of Princess roses and gypsophila. Also on the table was a picture of Mrs. Veazey and a copy of the invitation displayed on a small easel.

White cloths also covered the refreshment, punch, and cake tables. Centering the refreshment table was an antique white ceramic pitcher, edged in pink, that held a beautiful arrangement of Princess roses and gypsophila. From this table guests enjoyed fresh fruits, cheese wafers, toasted nuts, chicken salad in timbales and a cheese ring with strawberry jelly and crackers.

Another table was centered with the punch bowl banked with sprengeri fern and pink azalea blossoms. The refreshing lime punch was served by Mrs. Pollock.

The beautiful and delicious birthday cake centered another round table. Princess rose petals surrounded the base of the two-tiered confection. Columns separated the tiers both decorated with beautiful Princess roses, regular and miniature pink carnations, pale pink roses, deep pink-throated Alstroemeria lilies, gypsophila and greenery. "Mom" in pink was noted on the front of the base tier and the numeral "90" adorned the front of the top tier. The cake was served by granddaughters, Lisa Newsome of Washington and Anna Hogan of Martinez, who also alternately tended the guest register.

Family members attending in addition to Mrs. Veazey's daughters were her sons-in-law, Manuel Hunter of Washington and Michael Butts of Crawfordville; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mike and Debra Hunter and Bailey of Bishop, Warren and Lisa Newsome, Ansley and Hunter, of Washington, John and Erin Hunter, Tyler and Sarah Grace, of Statesboro, Curry Hogan of Lincolnton and guest, Amanda Woods of Washington, Anna Hogan of Martinez and guest, Sean Yeckley of Augusta, Christopher and Mary Butts of Stockbridge, Adam Butts and Jack Butts of Crawfordville; her sister, Rosa Nell Veazey; sisterin law, Christine Wheeler; nephew, Larry Veazey and his son Andy, all of Crawfordville; and a niece, Marilyn Osborne of Union Point. Also attending among the many guests were former pastors and wives, John and Frances King of Monroe and Lee and Dianne Hunter of Athens; and current pastor and family, Jeff and Martha Bishop and children of Conyers.
