Elizabeth Newsome honored at miscellaneous shower April 27 Elizabeth Newsome, bride-elect of Justin Holmes of Athens, was entertained at a miscellaneous drop-in shower Sunday afternoon, April 27, at the home of Rosemary Hopkins on East Robert Toombs Avenue. Joining Mrs. Hopkins in entertaining were Judy Coxwell, Debbie Lindsey, Ann Tiller, Jacquelyn Johnson, Laura Purdy, Pat Thornton, Kay Nelms, Melanie Wells, Cindy Bounds, Norma Hopkins and Susan Pope. Miss Newsome was lovely in a princess-styled dress in black with all-over tiny white squares. The bodice was shirred in center front and caught with a spaghetti strap that extended from the center front and tied in back. She was presented a wrist corsage of deep pink sweetheart roses. The front door of the home was graced with a heart-shaped grapevine wreath adorned with white hydrangeas, ribbons and pearls. Inside, the sofa table held the bride's keepsake scrapbook for guests to sign. They were welcomed and guided to the spacious den to greet the bride-elect and her family. The dining room table, covered in pink and overlaid in a white Army- Navy cloth, held a tall central arrangement of deep pink-tipped ivory roses, white peonies, cream Alstro- emeria lilies, white snapdragons, pink carnations, leatherleaf fern, eucalyptus and pink boronia. From the table guests enjoyed fresh coconut cake, Red Velvet cake, chocolate cake and caramel cake with cheese straws, toasted pecans, and fruit punch from the silver punch bowl centered with an ice ring of fresh fruits. Other silver and crystal appointments were used in serving. The hostesses presented the bride-elect the platter in her Mikasa Italian Countryside pattern. It was displayed with other gifts on tables covered in white.One table featured a white-washed tin of the same flowers as on the dining table while another was centered with an oversized champagne glass of clear glass rocks and swirls of pale pink ribbon. Miss Newsome presented her hostesses personalized embossed notecards.
About 100 guests were invited. Special guests included the brideelect's mother, Mary Newsome of Washington; her grandmothers, Jane Newsome of Washington and Faye Maloney of Doraville; and her aunt, Barbara Jumper of Buford. Outof town guests included Dorothy Kitchens of Gibson; Leigh Oxendine and Noah of Augusta; Amberly Roberts of Greensboro; and Teri Eno of Lincolnton.
